Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

CBT explores how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours impact each other. With that understanding, CBT shows how to utilize the information to your advantage and create positive changes. It is done through a structured, short-term and goal-oriented approach.

DBT, while based off of CBT, takes more of a focus on the emotional aspects and the connections. The main focus being on emotion regulation, helping people to understand why the emotions are occurring and processing them effectively. Often used in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder

EMDR is an evidence-based protocol that’s based on the idea that  psychopathology and mental illness arises when information about trauma or adversity is not encoded with missing information or maladaptively which then prevents the system from integrating the information in an adaptive way.
Reprocessing is about replacing the distorted belief or meaning that was created because of the trauma or adversity with a more adaptive, helpful belief or meaning.
EMDR is a therapy that is beneficial for many mental health concerns like PTSD or trauma, anxiety, difficulties regulating emotions and general mental health concerns as well.

Brainspotting

PictureSourced: thevillagefamily.org
Developed in 2003 by David Grant (and supported by research), Brainspotting (BSP) uses eye positioning to identify, focus, process, and release emotional and physical reactions to unprocessed events and adversities. These specific eye positions are known as brainspots, located in the subconscious area of the brain.

Through the use of therapist-guided instruction and enhanced by biolateral music clients can tap into their subconscious and allow themselves the vulnerability to process information in a safe way.

Have you experienced racial trauma in your journey?
Racial Trauma is defined as "Traumatic events that occur as a result of witnessing or experiencing racism, discrimination, or structural prejudice (systemic racism)."

Racial trauma profoundly affects a person, this includes intergenerational and historical traumatization. This creates an overwhelming feeling, to it reminds most of us, everyday, that as racialized people, we live in a system (society, process, interactions, engagement), that was not meant for people who look differently than white bodies, yet, are required, everyday, to navigate this system and do the best they can to be successful in that system.

If this resonates with you, find out more if this group is for you.
