Established in 2022, the First Responders Community Mental Health Services was created to respond to the lack of accessibility to quality trauma focused services.
An average day for a First Responder is anything but average. First Responders and Outreach Workers help our communities that puts them at a higher risk for traumatic stress injuries like anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
On top of dealing with trauma, there is also a lack of understanding about vicarious trauma and other forms of traumatic stress injuries at work and in the community. This program was established under our existing community counselling program (CCP), to acknowledge and create a space for that. As we journey alongside your path to recovery, we also want to offer support to family members who may also be dealing with the impacts of their loved ones suffering.
First Responders Community Mental Health Services (FRCMHS), is a free therapy service that enables individuals to see a counselling therapist graduate student and those seeking licensing.
Under the direct supervision of our Clinical Traumatologist, we aspire to offer specialized counselling therapy services and online groups to help fill the gaps presented in our current systems that support First Responders, their families and outreach workers.
How does it work?
Individuals interested in the FRCMHC can be referred through the counselling clinic. Individuals can self book, have someone book on their behalf, or contact our office (tel: 506.248.0639 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org). Once your counselling clinic appointment is done, the counselling student will submit a referral on your behalf. You should be contacted in 2-5 days for your first appointment and assigned therapist.
Who can use this service
First Responders (EMS, 911 dispatch, outreach workers, social workers, nurses, firefighters, rcmp, and security workers), family members living in the same household as First responders aged 16+.
What are the hours?
Our program offers sessions based upon the mutual availability of the assigned therapist and individual.
